NBIS & Salmon-Safe announce first Puget Sound urban certifications
New certifications recognize landowners taking greater steps for salmon restoration
(Seattle – March 6, 2008) - Salmon-Safe and its Seattle-based outreach partner The Network for Business Innovation and Sustainability (NBIS) announced today that the Washington State Department of Ecology headquarters campus, Port of Seattle Parks, and the co-located campus of University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia Community College have become the first urban Washington sites to achieve Salmon-Safe certification.
The certifications mark the expansion of Salmon-Safe in Washington from farms to the city and offer landowners new tools to improve salmon habitat that go above and beyond regulations. <more>

Endorsements help launch By-Product Synergy NW
Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Director Bob Drewel, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, and King County Executive Ron Sims have all endorsed the first regional by-product synergy network.
By-Product Synergy Northwest, which launches on march 18th, will help Washington companies increase the amount of their output that is actually profitable and reduce their environmental impacts. Through a process developed by the U.S. Business Council for Sustainable Development, the network of Northwest companies will work together to identify and implement “synergies” that will allow one company’s waste to become another company’s resource.<more>
